How can I help my adolescent child or teen lose weight?
The fact is that parents need to develop a multi-pronged strategy that emphasizes nutrition, portion control, and physical fitness while also serving as a role model for their kids. You cannot expect an overweight teen to commit to major lifestyle changes if the rest of the family is not committed with them. The Growing Lean
behavioral and nutritional counseling programs and
home-delivered food program are designed to enlist parent participation in their children’s weight loss battle.
What do I do if my child dislikes some of the menu selections in the Growing Lean food program?
Our food program is designed to help instill healthy tastes in your child that will promote healthier eating habits. If it is simply a question of taste, we recommend that you encourage your child to try the different menu items. In the event that your child absolutely will not or, for medical reasons, cannot eat certain menu items, we have several always available alternatives that can be substituted for each meal of the day.
How does Growing Lean differ from adult weight loss programs?
The Growing Lean program is specifically designed to help families address weight issues in children. We believe that a family-based solution has the best chance of long-term success. Our twelve-week program therefore enlists both parents and children in helping develop healthier habits for the family. Our food program is also designed for the nutritional requirements and tastes of children and teens, rather than adults. Finally, our holistic program integrates medical monitoring and treatment, therapy, education, food, and exercise classes in a supportive environment.
Can I purchase Growing Lean’s food products without participating in the twelve-week program?
Yes, our food program is available to anyone. However, we strongly recommend that you consult with a pediatrician before beginning any weight loss program with your child to establish appropriate weight loss objectives and ensure that the food program meets your child’s daily needs.
Is the Growing Lean food program appropriate if my child does not need to lose weight?
Yes. For families on the go, our foods provide a healthy and tasty alternative to fast foods or store-bought convenience meals.
Does Growing Lean take medical insurance?
We require full payment at the start of the twelve-week program, and at the time additional medical, nutritionist, or mental health services are rendered. Some of the services we provide may be covered by your insurance. At your request, we would be pleased to submit a request for reimbursement to your insurance carrier and will forward to you any insurance payments we receive on your behalf.
Can I purchase Growing Lean’s food products outside the Chicago area?
Not yet, but soon.
Is Growing Lean’s Food Program Nut Free?
No. Several of our menu items contain nuts. Other menu items are produced on equipment that is used for nut-containing recipes. If your child’s school prohibits nuts, please contact us to discuss which recipes contain nuts and consider substituting always available items on those days. Children with sensitivities to nuts should not be given Growing Lean foods.
